Welcome to the first edition of YLS News! The United Way Young Leaders Society formed two years ago to engage talented young professionals and inform them of the issues that are critical to our community. We recently restructured our program to rev up our events and give you a meaningful experience with YLS.
I got involved with YLS because I often wondered where the money that I donated to United Way went and what United Way actually did. Through YLS, I have learned that United Way works with business and community leaders to determine the specific needs in each area. Based on that information, United Way then provides funding to programs that are effective in addressing the needs. If I choose, I can volunteer to become trained to review proposals. Personally, learning about this process helped me feel comfortable that the money I have donated specifically addresses the needs that my community faces.
I am really excited about the new direction YLS is going. In addition to giving and volunteering you can advocate by educating your peers on the issues we face in Chicago. Thank you for all you do to LIVE UNITED and we hope to see you at The Fed on December 2.
