Meet Diamond Donor John Cook:
A United Way Tocqueville Society member and loyal contributor for more than 25 years, John Cook LIVES UNITED by giving and volunteering. He also advocates by encouraging his coworkers to do the same.
“I think it’s really important to give back to the communities in which we live and work,” John, director emeritus at McKinsey & Company, Inc., said. “It’s something that we owe to those who are less fortunate than us.”
John has been a strong supporter-giving generously of his time and resources-for more than two decades. He began investing in United Way in 1981 when he began his career at McKinsey in their San Francisco office. The next year, he helped to run the office campaign, increasing participation with an auction, a raffle and a private boat ride.
‘We had a lot of fun for a worthwhile cause,” John said.
Today, John sets an example of community involvement for his family and coworkers by lending his voice and talents to United Way and one of its funded programs. He has served as a Tocqueville Champion for more than nine years, provides pro bono strategic consulting for United Way, and his wife and son volunteer at a United Way funded literacy program at The Jane Addams Hull House Association.
“LIVING UNITED means giving back to the community in terms of support, time and skills,” John said. “Some of the most gratifying times I’ve had come from getting out in the community and seeing United Way at work.”
