United Way is calling on people in metropolitan Chicago to join together in a small way to make a big difference for families in crisis. The organization is reaching out to caring people to give just $5 to help—and to tell five of their friends to do the same.

The campaign, Give5Here, will run now through the end of March 2009, and encourages people to donate at give5here.org.

Give5Here was created to help Chicagoland families are facing big challenges right now. The demand for food bank assistance has gone up by more than 30-90% in our region. For every dollar United Way of Metropolitan Chicago has to fund services in financial stability, the organization is receiving $6 in requests –double the number of requests United Way received last year.

“United, we can all make our community stronger,” said Pam Tully, United Way executive vice president for resource development. “By giving just $5, people can help Chicago-area families with food, shelter and other critical needs.”
