Students Consulting for Non-Profit Organizations (SCNO) is a national organization of undergraduate students committed to developing communities through pro-bono consulting projects with nonprofits. SCNO provides its clients with high-quality, unique solutions to various issues to improve their mission.
The Northwestern University SCNO chapter began helping Chicago-area nonprofits this winter. The group expanded in the spring with three teams from Northwestern working with local nonprofit organizations to enhance their social impact. This fall there are even more students eager to gain hands-on experience while giving back to the community. Although every project is designed specifically to meet the needs of the client, common project areas include:
Strategic Marketing – The team would build plans to increase awareness of clients’ services and improve their name recognition in the community to volunteers, donors, and supporters
Fundraising and Capital Allocation – By catering fundraising tactics to the client’s unique needs, the team would develop fundraising plans and determine how to better employ the organization’s capital .
Information Technology – Teams use an array of services (website development, database creation, etc.) to enhance a client’s ability to operate in the digital age.
Organization Strategy – The team would determine the client’s identity in relation to the community, other nonprofits and their target market, and subsequently identify opportunities to grow or take advantage of particular resources unique to the client.
Operational Management – Through evaluation of internal processes, teams would recommend operational changes to improve the effectiveness of the organization.
If your organization is interested in working with SCNO during the fall quarter in any of these areas, please fill out this application and submit it to Rachel Park at nuscno@gmail.com by September 4th.
