United Way is partnering with the Illinois Safe School Alliance and Out & Equal to present a panel discussion on the issues surrounding violence in schools with a focus on bullying. The expert panel will feature community representatives discussing challenges around:
- Sexual Orientation
- Race
- Gender/Sexism
- Violence in School
- Efforts to Ensure Safety in School
This event is of particular importance to United Pride because of recent events where LGBT youth and children of LGBT families have been bullied whenthey are perceived as “other than” or “different.” They are bullied because society is not educated about how to handle those that stand out from the norm. Hopefully this panel will offer some experienced advice on how to combat this epidemic in our schools.
