2008 Awards and Honors

Nearly 2,000 organizations across the region run United Way fundraising campaigns each year, helping to generate roughly $70 million for addressing critical needs in our community. Earlier this year, we had the privilege of honoring many of our top supporters at our annual Community Celebration. Following are a few of those incredible honorees:

The Growth & Innovation Award recognizes the  organization that best demonstrates creativity and forward-thinking activities by incorporating United Way best practices or developing entirely new strategies in its campaign efforts to generate  an increase of at least 10% in fundraising totals over the previous year.

Named after one of the founders of the national United Way movement, the Frances Wisebart Jacobs Award recognizes the individual who works in an exemplary way  during the  workplace campaign and throughout the year to educate and inspire employees to invest in their community through United Way.

David Yancy Ambassador Award

The David Yancy Award recognizes the  Agency Ambassadors who has  been most devoted and effective at educating others about United Way and its impact in the community through presentations, agency tours and/or exhibits during the United Way campaign.

Diamond Award

The Diamond Award recognizes the leader at a United Way corporate partner whose commitment to United Way spans 25 years or more. Their contribution, leadership and dedication to improving lives through United Way have inspired others  to LIVE UNITED and advance the common good in our community.

African American Initiative Challenge Grant Award

The United Way African American Initiative helps African American boys, ages 10-16, transition successfully to adulthood. This award recognizes companies pledge to match individual contributions in order to provide the strongest impact on African American youth.

Blue and Cross Blue Shield of Illinois

Latino Initiative Challenge Grant Award

The United Way Latino Initiative ensures that Latino youth transition successfully to adulthood by helping them understand the importance of staying in school, creating a healthy identity that bridges two cultures and take on healthy family and social roles. This award recognizes companies whose fund-matching programs create powerful opportunities for lasting changes in Latino youth.
