Last night, United Way recognized Illinois Tool Works (ITW) with a Summit award for philanthropic engagement. ITW and its employees raised $11.4 million for United Way, including a generous dollar-for-dollar match plus an enhanced match available to incent participation and leadership giving.

YLS Members helping paint a mural at Catalyst Howland Charter School

Approximately 25 volunteers from United Way’s Young Leaders Society came out on April 21 to support Comcast Cares Day 2012 at Catalyst Howland Charter School. Why did you join YLS and what is your current role with YLS?
Growing up in my family, you quickly come to a few conclusions about what is important in the world: family, education, the arts and, especially, civic involvement and giving back to the community. The YLS and United Way provide opportunities for me to give my time and skills to help a huge number of organizations and do more good in the world. In 2012, United Way’s Young Leaders Society (YLS) began featuring young, interesting, compelling and successful Chicagoans in a series of question-and-answer pieces on the YLS LinkedIn page.
This initiative culminated April 18 with a Success Stories From Chicago’s Young Leaders panel discussion generously hosted by Leo Burnett. Nearly eighty people attended the compelling discussion, which focused on entrepreneurism but was applicable to anyone looking to succeed in their career.
