Wendy DuBoe
Chief Community Investment Officer
Wendy DuBoe is chief community investment officer for the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, the largest private funder of health and human services in the Chicago region. In this capacity, Ms. DuBoe plays a leadership role in working with staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners to maximize the impact of United Way’s community investment across the territory. Since joining United Way in 2003, she has spearheaded critical initiatives to evaluate health and human service needs, built community collaborations and ensured that United Way’s resources are best serving the community. She also played a significant leadership role in bringing together United Way’s regional merger of 54 local organizations into one metropolitan system.
Wendy DuBoe has worked for more than two decades in the private and not-for-profit sectors, and has extensive experience promoting partnerships and resource sharing between the sectors. Her background spans strategic planning, program development, investor relations, and external affairs.
Ms. DuBoe began her career in 1988 as program officer with The Chicago Council on Foreign Relations, where she directed corporate programming for the largest international affairs organization in the Midwest. In 1992, she joined Ameritech International as manager of research, and was later named director of business development. In these roles, she helped to analyze and position the corporation’s international investments in overseas markets. In 2000, Ms. DuBoe joined the Chicago office of Fleishman-Hillard as vice president of investor relations, and provided counsel to companies going public and announcing mergers and acquisitions.
In 2001, Wendy returned to the non-profit sector. She joined the Aspen Institute to launch a new programming initiative and was later named vice president of the Seminars Program – the internationally acclaimed curriculum dedicated to educating leaders on civic engagement and fostering a solid understanding of policy implications in corporate decision making. In that role, she oversaw the creation of program content and ran the department’s day-to-day operations.
Ms. DuBoe graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor with a B.A. in Economics and Psychology. She earned her M.A. in International Economics and International Relations from the Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). She also received a General Course Degree in Economics and Psychology from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
Wendy serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Executive Service Corps in Chicago and chairs the board of FEMA’s Emergency Food and Shelter Program for Chicago and Cook County. She has collaborated on health and human services publications and authored telecommunications policy position statements as well as a chapter in the Johns Hopkins University Foreign Policy Institute publication The Politics of Counterterrorism: The Ordeal of Democratic States (1990).
