United Way of Metropolitan Chicago Summer Jobs Program – 2008
Thousands of at-risk youth in the City of Chicago need summer jobs. Summer jobs give youth a safe place to spend the summer, a chance to develop job skills for their future, and a way to contribute to improving their neighborhoods.
United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, with the support of Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley and the City of Chicago, has created a summer jobs program to help create more youth employment opportunities during summer 2008.
By making a tax-deductible contribution to United Way, you can sponsor one or more summer jobs for Chicago's youth. Just $1,500 will support a summer employment opportunity for one young person. Contributions above that level will be used to support multiple job opportunities.
United Way will place Chicago youth at jobs in their own communities, at highly respected organizations such as Metropolitan Family Services, Centers for New Horizons, the Young Men's Educational Network and the YMCA.
Examples of youth job opportunities through this Program will include:
- Teaching Assistant: Youth will provide help to a teacher at an after-school program for children.
- Nurse Assistant at a local hospital: Youth will work with nurses, doing filing and caring for patients, and exposing them to the medical professions.
- Neighborhood surveyor: Youth will survey residents at major intersections in their community to ask people about gaps in social service.
