Volunteer Tax Assistance
In September, Illinois unemployment rate hit 7.3%, its highest level in more than a decade. Today, more than ever, families need to retain as much income as possible.
You can LIVE UNITED and help them.
United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, together with the Center for Economic Progress, is seeking volunteers to help individuals and families build financial stability. People in our community can volunteer to provide free tax assistance in advance of the April 15 IRS deadline. Together, we can make a difference.
Volunteers will receive nine hours of free training and an online certification, after which they are asked to commit to four hours each week in the evenings or on weekends to help people with their taxes for nine weeks. Continued education credits are also available to accounting professionals; please ask your Center for Economic Progress volunteer coordinator for more information.
Multiple training dates are available now through January 2009, and volunteers will provide tax assistance in January, February, March and April with volunteer support. Training will be offered at one central location in the Chicago Loop. Tax assistance will be offered throughout Chicago and some south suburbs.
Visit the Center for Progress to fill out an online volunteer application. Please make sure that you list United Way as your referral source!
